B2B Demand Generation | Hat Media
B2B Demand Generation

93% of the buying journey now happens without you in the room.

Your buyers are exploring, comparing and deciding largely on their own — long before a sales conversation starts. Demand generation is how you build the environment that lets them do that well, so that when they do reach out, they've already chosen you.

Demand generation is about building the environment your prospects need to explore, learn and discover on their own terms — not about pushing messages at people who aren't ready for them.

Buyers overwhelmingly start their journey alone. They dig into content, tools and resources long before they consider reaching out to a sales team, and by the time they do make contact, much of their thinking is already formed.

That changes what a demand generation strategy actually needs to do. Rather than optimising for the moment someone fills in a form, it has to optimise for everything that happens before that — content depth, self-serve tools, and a digital experience good enough that a buyer can genuinely educate themselves.

Get that right, and the sales conversation that follows starts from a completely different place.

Creating Demand for B2B SaaS

A practical session on what buyer-first demand generation actually looks like for SaaS companies — the content, tools and nurture tracks that let prospects self-educate properly, long before a sales conversation starts.

What buyer enablement actually looks like

If 70% of the journey happens before anyone talks to sales, the obvious conclusion is that most of your demand generation budget should go toward making that self-guided phase genuinely good — not toward finding ways to interrupt it.

In practice, that means building what we'd call a self-serve ecosystem: an environment where a prospect can educate themselves, compare their options and validate a decision entirely on their own, right up until the point they choose to bring in a human.

Rich, staged content

Guides, comparison matrices and case studies built for exactly where a buyer sits in their journey — not a single generic asset trying to serve everyone at once.

Interactive tools

ROI calculators, configurators and assessments that let a prospect test their own assumptions and evaluate options without needing to ask anyone's permission.

Seamless navigation

Search and site structure good enough that a buyer can actually find the answer they're looking for — a surprisingly common point of failure that quietly costs more pipeline than it should.

Adaptive nurture

Automated tracks that respond to behaviour rather than a fixed schedule — prompting the next logical question a buyer would actually have, at the moment they're ready for it.

A smooth handoff

Human interaction offered at exactly the moment a buyer signals they're ready — not before, and not so late that the momentum they've built is lost.

None of this replaces sales. It changes what sales is doing when the conversation finally happens — talking to someone who's already educated, already comparing you favourably, and already leaning toward yes.

Buyers do their own research now, build consensus quietly, and often have their shortlist ready before you know they exist. Demand generation isn't about getting louder. It's about being genuinely useful at the moment they're looking.

The B2B demand generation process

Six steps we work through with every client. The first two are the ones most teams are tempted to rush — and the ones that determine whether everything after them actually works.

01

Discovery and analysis

We interview key stakeholders, audit your existing marketing materials and channels, and analyse the competitive landscape to find where the real opportunities sit.

02

Audience identification and segmentation

Using demographic, firmographic and psychographic data, we build buyer personas that reflect your genuine ideal customer profile, and map the journey each one actually takes.

03

Strategy development

We build a comprehensive strategy integrating the right mix of SEO, PPC, content and email based on your goals and audience — with clear KPIs, a content calendar and a campaign roadmap attached.

04

Implementation and execution

We create targeted content for each stage of the buyer's journey, optimise landing pages for conversion, and launch across PPC, SEO, email and social in a coordinated way.

05

Continuous monitoring and optimisation

No set-and-forget. We track progress against KPIs, run A/B tests on landing pages, ad copy and email, and adjust the strategy based on what the data actually shows.

06

Reporting and communication

Transparent reporting on results, insights and the actions we're taking next — plus fortnightly review meetings, so you're never wondering what's happening or why.

Frequently Asked Questions

You might have some questions on your mind. Let us help.

How is demand generation different from lead generation?

Lead generation is about capturing contact details. Demand generation is about building genuine interest and understanding before that ever happens — so that by the time someone becomes a lead, they've already done most of the deciding.

How long before we see results?

Early channels like SEM can show movement within weeks. Content and SEO-driven demand generation typically takes three to six months to compound properly, which is why we'd always recommend running both together.

What's the right channel mix?

It depends entirely on your audience and sales cycle, which is exactly what the strategy development phase is for. As a general pattern, SEO and content build the long-term foundation while SEM and paid social provide faster, more immediate volume.

Do we need interactive tools like ROI calculators from day one?

Not necessarily. They're high-value additions once your core content and nurture tracks are working, because they require more production effort. We'd usually sequence them in after the foundational content is in place.

How does this connect to ABM?

Demand generation and ABM work well together rather than as alternatives. Broad demand generation builds market-wide visibility and trust; ABM applies focused effort to your highest-value accounts. Teletrac Navman is a good example of exactly that sequence.
